The UK delays consent on RWE’s 3 GW Dogger Bank South offshore wind project

The UK government has postponed a decision on the development consent order (DCO) for RWE and Masdar’s 3 GW Dogger Bank South offshore wind project in the United Kingdom (British government press release, 07/01/2026). The deadline, which was set for 10 January 2026, was postponed to 30 April 2026 to “request further information that was not provided for consideration during the examination period.” While this decision has no prejudice to whether to grant the development consent for the project, it does represent a setback for its developers.

The project is comprised by two array areas, the Dogger Bank South East and Dogger Bank South West, with a capacity of 1.5 GW each. Located at approximately 100 km off the North Yorkshire coast (north-east England), the project is expected to start commercial operations by 2031

The UK government plans to raise offshore wind capacity to 50 GW by 2030 (Enerdata’s Global Energy Research).
