The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has granted a Development Consent Order (DCO) for the Beacon Fen Energy Park in Lincolnshire, England (United Kingdom). The project comprises a 400 MW solar PV park combined with a 600 MVA BESS together with an on-site substation and associated grid connection infrastructure (British government press release, 21/08/2026).
The project, developed by Low Carbon, was submitted to the Planning Inspectorate in April 2025 and accepted for examination in May 2025. Following a six-month examination process, the Examining Authority submitted its recommendation to the government in May 2026, leading to final approval. Construction is expected to start in 2027, with full commissioning anticipated in the early 2030s. Beacon Fen Energy Park is planned to be located east of Sleaford and connected to the Bicker Fen 400 kV substation, i.e., the same substation as the Viking Link interconnector between the United Kingdom and Denmark.
The approval marks the 112th energy infrastructure application examined under the UK's national infrastructure planning regime. It also follows a series of recent approvals for large-scale solar and storage projects as the government seeks to accelerate the deployment of low-carbon electricity generation and energy storage.
