UK announces shut down of the 5.4 Mt/year Prax Lindsey oil refinery

The British Government has announced that the sale process for the Prax Lindsey oil refinery has failed to bring forward a credible and feasible offer and had entered insolvency. The Government decided that the refinery will not order any further crude oil to be processed, and it will shortly move into a wind-down phase, while also processing the remainder of the existing crude. The refinery will continue to process crude for the rest of the month and selling refined products for several weeks to give buyers time to adjust their supply chains.

The 5.4 Mt/year (113,000 bbl/d) Lindsey refinery, owned by the Prax Group, is located in Immingham (Lincolnshire) in England (United Kingdom). The facility, which constitutes the smallest of the UK’s five remaining refineries, fell into insolvency under the weight of mounting debts left by its owners at the end of June 2025.
