UK’s latest Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction, Allocation Round 7 (AR7), has allocated 6.2 GW of new renewable energy capacity (UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero statement, 10/02/2026). Most of the allocated capacity corresponds to solar, with 157 projects with a combined capacity of 4.9 GW, followed by onshore wind (28 projects, 1.3 GW) and tidal (20.9 MW distributed across 4 projects).
The CfD awarded a total of 14.7 GW, when considering the previously awarded 8.4 GW new offshore wind capacity allocated to 12 projects across the UK (Enerdata’s KEI, 15/01/2026), becoming the largest CfD round in terms of awarded capacity and number of projects awarded (201).
The UK has had six previous CfD allocation rounds, with the CfD AR6 delivering a total of 128 projects with a combined capacity of 9.6 GW, most of which were offshore wind, As reported in its “Clean Power 2030” document, the UK aims to have 43-50 GW of offshore wind, 27-29 GW of onshore wind capacity and 45-47 GW of solar by 2030. As of end-2024, the UK had 32 GW of installed wind capacity (around 15 GW offshore and 17 GW onshore), plus 17.5 GW of solar (Enerdata Global Energy Research).
