The UAE launches its National Water and Energy Demand Management Programme

The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched its National Water and Energy Demand Management Programme, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of the three most energy-intensive sectors in the country, namely transport, industry and construction, by 40% by 2050. It will launch several initiatives to cut energy demand by 40%, to raise the share of renewables in the energy mix to 50% and to boost water reuse by 95%.

In the emirate of Dubai, Dubai Demand Side Management Strategy 2030 aims to cut the demand for electricity and water by 30% by 2030, while the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy aims to produce 75% of its energy requirements from clean sources by 2050. The Abu Dhabi Demand Side Management and Energy Rationalisation Strategy (DSM) 2030 aims to cut electricity consumption by 22% and water consumption by 32% by 2030.
