TWP submits scoping report for the 1 GW Ayre wind project in Scotland (UK)

The Scottish renewable energy company Thistle Wind Partners (TWP) has submitted the onshore scoping report for its Ayre floating wind project, one of its two ScotWind projects. The 1 GW Ayre Offshore Wind Plant is planned to be located at the east of Orkney (Scotland, UK) and to be connected to the grid in Caithness with a landfall point at the Sinclair’s Bay, all connected by underground cables. The offshore scoping report is due to be submitted in spring 2024. The onshore scoping report submission is the first step towards the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to support the submission for Planning Permission in Principle, targeted for early 2025.

Besides the Ayre project, TWP - a joint venture of DEME, Qair and Aspiravi - also has the 1 GW Bowdun Offshore Wind project (fixed-bottom, off the coast of Aberdeenshire in Scotland, UK) which is expected to submit its offshore and onshore scoping reports in 2024. TWP expects to complete the pre-FEED (front-end engineering designs) phase for the two projects by mid-2024, which will be followed by a second round of geophysical and geotechnical studies to inform the FEED for the projects. If consenting is achieved by 2025, the final investment decision (FID) for both the Ayre and Bowdun projects is scheduled for 2028. The company then plans to start construction on the two wind projects by 2029.
