TWP moves ahead with its 1 GW Bowdun wind project off Scotland (UK)

Thistle Wind Partners (TWP) has submitted the offshore scoping report for the development of its 1 GW Bowdun offshore wind project, located off the coast of Scotland (United Kingdom), to the Scottish Government’s Marine Directorate Licensing & Operations team. Situated 44 km east of Stonehaven, the Bowdun fixed-bottom offshore wind park will connect to the grid in Aberdeenshire.

TWP is also developing the 1 GW Ayre offshore floating wind project off Scotland, for which the company submitted its offshore scoping report in July 2024. TWP plans to start construction of both wind farms in 2029, with the Ayre floating offshore wind farm being built in two separate phases. Both the Ayre and Bowdun projects are expected to be fully commissioned by 2033.

The UK aims to reach up to 50 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030. The country had 13.8 GW of offshore wind in 2022 and over 14.7 GW at the end of 2023.
