TWP advances with its 1 GW Bowdun wind project off Scotland (UK)

Thistle Wind Partners (TWP) has submitted its offshore consent application for the development of its 1 GW Bowdun offshore wind project, located off the coast of Scotland (United Kingdom), to the Scottish Government’s Marine Directorate Licensing & Operations team (TWP press release, 07/05/2026). Situated 44 km east of Stonehaven, the Bowdun fixed-bottom offshore wind park will connect to the grid in Aberdeenshire.

The submission represents that the project has now submitted for evaluation both its onshore and offshore elements, since the partners had sent its application for the onshore elements to the Aberdeenshire Council in November 2025. The project is expected to be constructed within a five-year period, and once operational it is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 1.2 million households.

The UK aims to reach up to 50 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2030. The country had over 16 GW of offshore wind in 2025 (106 GW in total installed capacity).
