Hongyanhe-2, a 1,080 MW nuclear reactor being built by China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), has reached criticality. CGN started building the CPR-1000 reactor in the Liaoning province in 2008 and commissioning is expected in 2014. A first unit was commissioned in early 2013, two further units are under construction (slated for commissioning in 2016) and two units are under development.
Moreover, CGN has started to load nuclear fuel into the Yangjiang-1 nuclear unit in Guangdong. The Yangjiang nuclear project will consist of six CPR-1000+ units (1,080 MW each). Construction started in 2008 on the first unit (expected to be commissioned by the end of year), with units 2,3 and 4 following in 2009, 2010 and 2011; they should be commissioned in 2014, 2015 and 2017. Unit 5 entered construction in early 2013 and works for Unit 6 are expected to start in 2014. All the units should be in operation by 2018.
