Two 400 MW wind projects move forward in north-eastern Brazil

Engie has signed an agreement with Siemens Gamesa to supply wind turbines for the first phase of the BRL$2.2bn (US$417m) Santo Agostinho onshore wind project in Rio Grande do Norte (north-eastern Brazil). The first phase of the project will have a capacity of 434 MW and is expected to enter operations in March 2023. It will sell its power generation directly to the free energy market.

In addition, the Brazilian renewable developer Essentia Energia has signed an agreement with the state government of Bahia (north-eastern Brazil) to develop the 465 MW São Vitor project worth BRL2.3bn (US$434m). The project is scheduled to start supplying power in the second quarter of 2022. In December 2020, Siemens Gamesa was selected to supply 75 of its SG 5.8-170 turbines (operating at 6.2 MW each) for the power plant. Essentia Energia is also developing a 474 MW solar project - Sol do Sertao - expected to be commissioned in the second half of 2021.
