Türkiye’s BOTAŞ signs deal to export 1.5 bcm/year of gas to Romania

The Turkish state-owned oil and gas grid operator BOTAŞ has signed an agreement to supply 1.5 bcm/year of natural gas to Romania’s OMV Petrom. Gas exports to Romania will begin on 1 October 2023, with volumes up to 4 mcm/day, and will last until 31 March 2025.

In 2023, BOTAŞ also signed gas supply agreements with Hungary and Bulgaria. In January 2023, the Bulgarian state-owned company Bulgargaz entered into an agreement with BOTAŞ to import up to 1.5 bcm/year of LNG via Turkey’s gas network and LNG imports terminal for a period of 13 years. In August 2023, the Hungarian energy conglomerate MVM agreed to buy about 300 mcm of natural gas from BOTAŞ.

With the new deal signed with OMV Petrom, the export commitments of BOTAŞ will reach up to 3.3 bcm, nearing full capacity of the Türkiye’s northern export route.
