Türkiye targets 900 MW electricity exports to Syria by Q1 2026

Türkiye has announced plans to export approximately 900 MW of electricity directly to Syria by the first quarter of 2026. According to the government, Türkiye currently exports 281 MW of electricity to Syria via eight connection points. This capacity is expected to increase to 360 MW in the coming weeks, with the ultimate goal of supplying an additional 500 MW through an expanded transmission line from Birecik (Türkiye) to Aleppo.

This development follows the early August 2025 delivery of Azerbaijani gas to Syria through a swap agreement between Türkiye’s state pipeline operator BOTAŞ and Azerbaijan’s SOCAR, which enabled the transfer of Azeri gas to the Turkish-Syrian border. Current gas flows stand at 3.4 mcm/d, with ongoing work to raise capacity to 6 mcm/d (up to 2.2 bcm/year).

In the same statement, the government also announced that it is negotiating a new pipeline agreement with Iraq and preparing to finalize oil and gas exploration contracts in Pakistan.
