Türkiye's Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources has announced that the country’s installed electricity capacity reached 126.5 GW at the end of July 2026. Of the total, 79.4 GW, or 62.8%, came from renewable energy sources, while domestic energy resources accounted for 72% of installed capacity (Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, 23/08/2026).
Solar power capacity reached 27.5 GW, representing 22% of total installed capacity, while wind capacity rose to 15.4 GW, or 12%. Together, solar and wind accounted for 42.9 GW and 33.8% of Türkiye's total power capacity.
Hydropower remained the country's largest generation source with 32.3 GW (26%), while natural gas accounted for 25 GW (20%). Installed capacity from domestic coal stood at 11.6 GW (9%), while imported coal accounted for 10.5 GW (8%). Biomass and geothermal energy contributed 2.4 GW (2%) and 1.8 GW (1%), respectively.
These developments are in line with Türkiye’s goal to reach 120 GW of solar and wind capacity by 2035. As part of the National Energy Plan 2022-2035, renewables are expected to account for 75% of the new power capacity that will be commissioned and will make up 65% of total capacity in 2035 (Enerdata’s Global Energy Research).
