Turkey’s Karpowership signs deal to supply Ukraine with 500 MW of capacity

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between Karpowership and Ukraine's state-owned trader JSC Energy Company of Ukraine (ECU) to enhance electricity supply cooperation and to fast-track the use of floating power plants to alleviate the country's energy crisis. To develop and finance the execution of 500 MW, the Turkish firm affiliated with Karadeniz Holding will collaborate with local, regional, and global organisations.

The company is planning to moor floating power plants offshore Moldova or Romania, with electricity connecting to Ukraine's grid via transmission lines. As a result, Karpowership and ECU will engage Moldovan and Romanian authorities to assess the viability of these two options.

The Turkish group owns and operates owns and operates 36 powerships with an installed capacity of 6,000 MW. Karpowership's vessels are multi-fuel enabled, operating on either liquefied natural gas, low sulphur fuel oil or biodiesel. The company is already present across Africa, in New Caledonia and Brazil.
