The Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) has increased electricity prices for 2022 by 50% for lower-demand households and by more 100% for high-demand commercial users. In addition, the state-owned gas group BOTAŞ has raised natural gas prices by 25% for residential use and 50% for industrial use. The price increase of gas for power generation in industry will be limited to 15%.
BOTAŞ already increased gas prices several times in 2021, due to surging global gas prices: gas prices for residential use were raised by 12% in July 2021 (+20% for industrial use and for electricity production). In October 2021, it raised gas prices for industry and power plants by 15% on 1 October 2021, and in November 2021, the group raised gas price by 47% for power plants and by 48% for the industry.
