Tunisia’s draft NDC aims to reduce by 62% its carbon intensity by 2035

Tunisia has published its preliminary draft NDC (NDC 3.0) covering the 2026–2035 period. The report is only an interim document that should serve as an outline of the country’s main objectives, while the final NDC 3.0 is planned to be published before the COP30. The report details the country's updated targets: Tunisia commits to unconditionally reduce its carbon intensity by 31% by 2035 compared to 2010 (intermediate goal of 28% by 2030, up from 27% in the previous NDC) and raises the conditional reduction target (pending international financing) to 62% (intermediate goal of 46.2% cut by 2030, which is higher than the previous target of 45%).

In relation to net emissions, the country seeks to reduce its net emissions to 24 MtCO₂e in 2035 (compared to 35 MtCO₂e in 2010), avoiding about 152 MtCO2e in cumulative net emissions in the 2026–2035 period (compared to BaU scenario,) of which 81% is expected to come from the energy sector and 14% from the Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use sector (AFOLU).

The complete and final NDC 3.0 document plans to add quantified objectives for adaptation to climate change impacts across the country’s priority areas, with horizons to 2030 and 2035.
