Trina Storage, a Chinese energy storage solutions provider and a business unit of Trina Solar, has signed a large-scale battery energy storage (BESS) project in Italy with Irish renewable energy developer Aer Soléir (Trina Solar press release, 20 January 2026).
The 250 MW/1 GWh project will be located in Rondissone, in the Turin area of Italy. It was awarded under Italy’s Capacity Market auction for delivery year 2027, securing a 15-year Capacity Market Contract. According to the company’s press release, “this 1 GWh project is set to become one of the largest battery energy storage projects in Italy and in Europe.” Financial close was reached earlier in 2026
The Rondissone project further strengthens Trina Storage’s growing European footprint, with more than 4 GWh of BESS projects already contracted across the UK, Italy, Germany, Greece, Spain, and Eastern Europe.
In addition, Trina Storage has announced the signing of BESS supply contracts totalling 1.2 GWh with T-Power in Chile and YPF Luz, one of Argentina’s leading power generation companies (Trina Solar press release, 22 January 2026).
- In Chile, Trina Storage is partnering with T-Power on the Luz del Norte energy storage project, a 141 MW/722 MWh system located in Copiapó, in the Atacama Region.
- In Argentina, Trina Storage has signed an agreement with Central Dock Sud, a subsidiary of YPF Luz, for the Alma Sur project, a 90 MW/481 MWh battery energy storage system.
According to the press release, the 1.203 GWh of newly signed contracts add to the 1.2 GWh of BESS systems already delivered by Trina Storage in Latin America in 2025, along with additional projects under contract. Together, these projects form a regional portfolio of several gigawatt-hours, spanning assets under execution and an advanced development pipeline.
