Trina Storage and AMP-lify sign MoU for 1 GWh of BESS supply in Japan

Trina Storage, the energy storage division of Trinasolar, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Japanese clean energy platform AMP-lify to provide around 1 GWh of battery energy storage system (BESS) equipment for grid-connected projects in Japan (Trinasolar press release, 14/09/2026).

AMP-lify is active in the development, construction and operation of grid-connected BESS, utility-scale solar and onshore wind projects throughout Japan. Under the terms of the agreement, Trina Storage will deliver its Elementa 3 BESS solution and provide technical support for AMP-lify’s planned energy storage developments. The Elementa 3 platform incorporates Trina Storage’s proprietary 587 Ah high-capacity battery cell technology and offers storage capacity of up to 6.25 MWh per container, making it suitable for large-scale utility energy storage applications.

This collaboration comes as Japan continues to strengthen its focus on energy storage to facilitate the integration of variable renewable energy generation. In 2018, the country’s Strategic Energy Plan identified nuclear power and renewable energy as key long-term sources of electricity supply, while highlighting the importance of accelerating the development of energy storage and hydrogen technologies. Japan’s Seventh Strategic Energy Plan (2025) forecasts that renewables will contribute approximately 40–50% of electricity generation by fiscal 2040 and once again emphasizes the deployment of storage batteries and demand response measures to maintain a flexible electricity system (Enerdata Global Energy Research).
