Trillion Energy acquires a 50% interest in three oil blocks in Türkiye

The Canadian oil and gas company Trillion Energy has entered into a farm-in agreement with the Turkish company Derkim Poliüretan for a 50% working and revenue interest in three oil exploration blocks in the Cudi Gabar region, Şırnak Province, in Türkiye’s Kurdistan.

The “Eastern Block” is located approximately 12 km from the newly discovered Sehit Aybuke Yalcin oil field at Mount Gabar, which is estimated to contain 1 Gbl of oil in place. The two “Western Blocks” are located approximately 30 km west of the Eastern Block. The northern boundary of the Western Blocks is located approximately 5 km away from the Raman oil field, which contains a reported initial 615 mbl of oil in place.

In early May 20223, Türkiye announced the discovery of new oil reserves near the Cudi Gabar mountains, with a production capacity potential of 100 kb/d (nearly 6 Mt/year). Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) estimates the reserves of the field at 1 billion barrels. The oil was discovered at a depth of 2,600 meters and will be extracted thanks to the construction of 100 wells. The discovered oil could meet 10% of Türkiye’s daily use. As of end-2022, Türkiye’s oil reserves stood at 50 Mt and its production at 4.6 Mt.
