Trident Winds plans a 2 GW floating wind project off the Washington State (US)

The US offshore wind project developer Trident Winds has submitted an Unsolicited Lease Request (ULR) to the US Bureau of Ocean and Energy Management (BOEM) for a lease to develop an up to 2 GW floating offshore wind project off the coast of Washington State (Atlantic coast, United States). The proposed Olympic Wind project would be located around 70 km off the coast of the Olympic Peninsula and would be the first floating project in the Washington State. Pending the award of a non-competitive lease, the final investment decision (FID) would be made in 2028 and the project could be operational as soon as 2030.

Under its Clean Energy Transformation Act (CETA) (2019), the State of Washington State mandate each power utility to prepare and release a clean energy implementation plan with its own energy efficiency and renewable targets. Utilities must eliminate coal-fired power from their state portfolios by 2025 and they must transition to greenhouse gas–neutral electricity by 2030 and to 100% renewable or non-emitting electricity by 2045.
