TransCanada's Coastal GasLink project secures new permits (Canada)

Canadian pipeline operator TransCanada has signed all the required agreements with all of the elected Indigenous bands along the CAD 4.8bn (US$3.6bn) Coastal GasLink pipeline project route in British Columbia (Canada). The project is expected to break ground in early 2019 while the startup date is set for 2023. The project's final investment decision (FID) is now expected for the fourth quarter of 2018.

Estimated to have an initial capacity of 2.1 bcf/d (59 mcm/d or 21.5 bcm/year), the 670-km long project has the potential for expansion up to 5 bcf/d (141 mcm/d or 51 bcm/year).

Once built, it will ship gas from the Western Canadian basin in northeast British Columbia to the West Coast around Kitimat (BC), where the shipped gas will be liquefied at the Shell-led LNG Canada project. LNG Canada is a joint venture (JV) comprising Shell, Petrochina, Petronas, KOGAS and Mitsubishi Corporation.
