TransCanada will submit review for Energy East pipeline in Quebec (Canada)

Canadian energy pipeline operator TransCanada has agreed to submit an environmental review of its proposed Energy East gas pipeline project to the Ministry of Environment of Québec (Canada).

The Energy East Pipeline Project is a 1.1 mb/d crude oil pipeline project, whose development will involve converting approximately 3,000 km of existing natural gas pipe in the Canadian Mainline between the Alberta/Saskatchewan border to Cornwall, Ontario, and the remaining 1,600 km will be new construction mainly in Québec and New Brunswick. Associated facilities will include pumping stations in each province and four new oil storage terminals, one each in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Québec and New Brunswick. If approved, Energy East is anticipated to be in service in 2020.

In early March 2016, the province of Québec filed a motion seeking an injunction against the pipeline, to ensure the project complied with provincial environmental regulations. TransCanada's environmental review will avoid a potential legal battle with the province.
