TransCanada secures last permits for Coastal GasLink Pipeline (Canada)

Canadian energy pipeline operator TransCanada has received the last two of ten pipeline and facilities permits required from the Oil and Gas Commission of British Columbia (Canada) for its proposed Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project (Coastal GasLink) in Canada. The project has now secured all construction and operation permits.

The proposed Coastal GasLink pipeline project would stretch over 670 km in British Columbia, from the Groundbirch zone near Dawson Creek to the proposed LNG Canada LNG export facility near Kitimat. The project would have a capacity of 2-3 bcf/d (21-31 bcm/year) of natural gas and could later be expanded to 5 bcf/d (over 50 bcm/year).

The Final Investment Decision (FID) by the pipeline customers, the joint venture of partners of LNG Canada, is expected in late 2016. Pending their FID, TransCanada would start building its Coastal GasLink pipeline project in 2017, with commissioning in 2020.
