TransCanada awards deals for the Coastal GasLink Pipeline project (Canada)

The Canadian energy pipeline operator TransCanada has awarded four contracts with a combined value of CAD2.8bn (US$2.1bn) for the construction of its proposed CAD 4.8bn (US$3.6bn) Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project (Coastal GasLink) in Canada. The project's final investment decision (FID) is expected for the fourth quarter of 2018, while the commissioning date is currently scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.

The project secured all construction and operation permits in May 2016 and would stretch over 670 km in British Columbia, from the Groundbirch zone near Dawson Creek to the proposed LNG Canada LNG export facility near Kitimat. It would have a capacity of 2-3 bcf/d (21-31 bcm/year) and could later be expanded to 5 bcf/d (over 50 bcm/year). LNG Canada is a joint venture (JV) comprising Shell, Petrochina, Petronas, KOGAS and Mitsubishi Corporation.
