Total's Kaombo deep offshore project comes online (Angola)

The French oil and gas company Total has begun production of deep offshore Kaombo project on Block 32 in Angola, which is located approximately 260 km off the coast of Luanda. The project is made of two floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) units, namely Kaombo Norte and Kaombo Sul, with a production capacity of 115,000 bbl/d each. Kaombo Norte is now operational while Kaombo Sul is expected to start up in 2019.

The Kaombo block includes an estimated 650 Mboe of reserves spread across six different fields: Gengibre, Gindungo, Caril, Canela, Mostarda and Louro. 59 wells will be connected to the two FPSOs and the overall production will reach 230,000 bbl/d in 2019, while the associated gas will be shipped to the Angola LNG plant.

Total operates Block 32 with a 30% stake, along with Sonangol (30%), Sonangol Sinopec International (20%), Esso (15%) and Galp Energia (5%). Total's production in Angola averaged 229,000 boe/d in 2017 from several areas: Blocks 17, 14 and 0, as well as Angola LNG.
