TotalEnergies will restart production from Denmark’s Tyra gas field in March 2024

The French oil and gas company TotalEnergies has decided to restart production from Denmark’s Tyra natural gas field at the end of March 2024. Denmark's largest gas field was temporarily closed down for redevelopment in 2019. The redeveloped field, also called Tyra II, is expected to have a gas output of 2.8 bcm/year.

Prior to its shutdown, the Tyra field served as a processing and export hub for more than 90% of the gas produced from the Danish North Sea. Production was stopped after the seabed sunk several metres under Tyra's platforms after more than 30 years of production. The redevelopment project included removing and recycling of old installations, and installing new ones, including with longer platform legs.

TotalEnergies is the operator of the Tyra field on behalf of DUC, a partnership between TotalEnergies (43.2%), BlueNord (36.8%) and Nordsøfonden (20%).

After a peak in 2005 at 10.5 bcm, Denmark’s gas production has declined on average by 11%/year since then to 1.5 bcm in 2022.
