TotalEnergies partners up for an offshore block in Orange basin (South Africa)

The French oil and gas group TotalEnergies and Qatar’s state-owned company QatarEnergy have signed an agreement with Africa Oil South Africa, Azinam (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Eco Atlantic Oil and Gas) and Ricocure to acquire participating interests in Block 3B/4B, offshore South Africa. Under the terms of the agreement, the participation interest should be as follows: TotalEnergies (33%), QatarEnergy (24%), Ricocure (19.75%), Africa Oil SA (17%), and Azinam (6.25%). TotalEnergies is expected to assume operatorship.

The Block 3B/4B is located within the Orange basin at 200 km off the western coast of South Africa, it covers an area of 17,581 km2 and it is adjacent to the DWOB license operated by TotalEnergies (50%) alongside QatarEnergy (30%) and Sezigyn (20%).

TotalEnergies holds Exploration Rights over four offshore Blocks in South Africa: Block 5/6/7 (south-west coast), Block Deep Water Orange Basin (west coast), Orange Basin Deep (west coast), Outeniqua South (south coast) for exploration and well drilling of hydrocarbon, and has applied for a Production Right (PR) over Block 11B/2B (south coast).
