The joint venture between TotalEnergies, Corio Generation and Renewable Infrastructure Development Group (RIDG) has submitted an offshore consent application to the Scottish Government for the development of the 2 GW West of Orkney offshore wind project, located in northern Scotland (UK).
In 2022, the West of Orkney project secured the development rights to an area of seabed from Crown Estate Scotland in ScotWind leasing process to bring forward an offshore windfarm 30 km west of the Orkney Mainland and 25 km north of the Sutherland coast. The project will comprise up to 125 turbines on fixed foundations and is expected to deliver its first power in 2029 if approved.
At the national level, the UK plans to reach 50 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 (13.8 GW as of end-2022).
