TotalEnergies JV submits application for a 1.5 GW wind project off the UK

Outer Dowsing Offshore Wind, the joint venture between France’s TotalEnergies, Corio Generation and Thailand’s Gulf Energy Development has submitted an application for a Development Consent Order (DCO) to the Planning Inspectorate of England (United Kingdom) to build a 1.5 GW offshore wind project off the Lincolnshire coast.

The project will feature up to 100 wind turbines and will be able to generate enough power to supply about 1.6 million British households once completed. It is expected to offset emissions by about 2 MtCO2/year. In January 2023, the UK’s Crown Estate signed agreements for all six offshore wind projects selected in the UK’s round 4 offshore wind seabed leasing, including the 1.5 GW Outer Dowsing project.

The UK plans to reach 50 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030 (13.8 GW as of end-2022), including 5 GW of floating wind.
