TotalEnergies has joined a consortium with Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) and Renewable Infrastructure Development Group (RIDG) to bid for sites in the forthcoming offshore wind leasing round (ScotWind) in Scotland (United Kingdom). The consortium called Offshore Wind Power Ltd (OWPL) will bid for an area of 8,600 km squared of Scottish seabed available for development. The closing date for submitting applications is 16 July 2021.
In February 2021, GIG and TotalEnergies already secured rights to a seabed lease in the Eastern Regions zone in the Crown Estate’s England and Wales Offshore Wind Leasing Round 4 to develop a 1.5 GW offshore wind project.
In October 2020, the Scottish government raised its target for offshore wind power capacity by 2030 from 8 GW to 11 GW. Scotland has currently 5.6 GW of consented offshore capacity, of which 1 GW is operational.
