TotalEnergies has signed an agreement with the Czech energy group Energetický a průmyslový holding (EPH) to acquire 50% of its flexible power generation platform in Italy, the United Kingdom and Ireland, the Netherlands, and France (TotalEnergies press release, 17/11/2025). The platform comprises gas-fired plants, biomass facilities, and battery storage systems in operation or under construction, representing over 14 GW of capacity and 15 TWh/year of net power generation, along with about 5 GW of projects under development.
The acquisition scope include:
- Italy: 7.5 GW, with 3.7 GW in operation, 2.4 GW under construction (including 2 CCGT power plants), and 1.4 GW under development.
- United Kingdom and Ireland: 7.1 GW, including 5 GW from operating gas and biomass plants, 0.4 GW of BESS under construction and 1.7 GW under development.
- The Netherlands: 3.6 GW, including 2.6 GW of existing gas-fired plants, 0.2 GW from BESS under construction and 0.8 GW under development.
- France: 1.1 GW of projects (100 MW of BESS under construction and 1 GW under development).
The transaction will establish a 50/50 joint venture that will oversee operations and business development, while each company will market its share of output under a tolling agreement with the joint venture. According to the company, the net electricity production will enable TotalEnergies to capture value equivalent to ~2 Mt/year of LNG, and could reach 20 TWh/year in 2030. The joint venture will be the preferred vehicle for the two partners to expand flexible power generation across the targeted countries.
