TotalEnergies and AMNI have taken the final investment decision (FID) for the Ima gas project offshore Nigeria (TotalEnergies press release, 23/09/2026). Located in shallow waters across the OML 112 and OML 117 licences, the field is scheduled to start production in 2028 and reach a plateau of 350 mcf/d (9.9 mcm/d or 3.6 bcm/year), equivalent to more than 60 kboe/d.
The project is set to supply the Nigeria LNG liquefaction plant on Bonny Island. The development includes a single platform connected to Nigeria LNG by a 22 km pipeline. Ima is set to provide around one-third of the gas required by the Nigeria LNG Train 7 expansion, which would increase the plant’s capacity from 22 Mt/year to 30 Mt/year. The platform is designed to receive electricity from shore and operate without routine flaring, supported by permanent methane detection and monitoring.
TotalEnergies has operated in Nigeria for over 60 years and produced 188 kboe/d in the country in 2025. The group holds a 40% operating interest, while Nigerian company AMNI owns the remaining 60%.
