TotalEnergies acquires a 1.3 GW gas-fired power plant in Nottinghamshire (UK)

The French oil and gas company TotalEnergies has signed an agreement with EIG, an institutional investment fund in the energy sector, to acquire the 1.3 GW West Burton B gas-fired power plant located in Nottinghamshire, England (United Kingdom). TotalEnergies will acquire all the shares of West Burton Energy for an enterprise value of £450m (€529m).

West Burton B, commissioned in 2013, comprises three combined-cycle gas turbines (CCGT) with total output of 1.3 GW. A 49 MW battery storage system was added to the plant in 2018. The power plant currently supplies around 1.8 million UK households.

TotalEnergies currently has a renewable project portfolio in the United Kingdom amounting to 1.1 GW gross installed capacity and 4.5 GW under development. The company estimates its need for gas-based electricity production capacity at 700 MW and plans to sell 50% of the acquired assets.
