Total starts producing oil from Zinia Phase 2 project (Angola)

Total has produced first oil from the Zinia Phase 2 short-cycle project in Angola’s Block 17, connected to the existing Pazflor’s FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading unit). Zinia Phase 2 resources are located about 150 km from the Angolan coast in water depths from 600 to 1,200 meters and are estimated at 65 mbl of oil. The project includes drilling nine wells and is expected to reach a production of 40,000 bbl/d by mid-2022. Block 17 is operated by Total with a 38% stake, in partnership with Equinor (22.16%), ExxonMobil (19%), BP (15.84%) and Sonangol (5%). Its production license was recently extended until 2045.

Total produced around 212,000 boe/d in Angola in 2020 from operated Blocks 17 and 32 and from non-operated assets 0, 14, 14K, and Angola LNG (through a 13.6% stake in the 5.2 Mt/year LNG plant). The group is the largest oil producing company in the country, with around 45% of Angola’s operated oil production.

In 2020, over 61% of the total oil production in Angola came from deep water projects (20% from ultra-deep water and 17% from shallow waters). Gas production reached 31 bcm in 2020 (85 mcm/d). Almost 5% of the natural gas production was flared in 2020.
