Total starts up gas production at Culzean field (UK)

Total has started to produce gas from the Culzean gas condensate field located on Block 22/25a, in the British part of the North Sea off Aberdeen (Scotland). The project included the drilling of six wells, the construction of three bridge-linked platforms and of a Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) unit. Gas production is expected to reach a plateau of 100,000 boe/d (i.e. 16 mcm/d or 5.8 bcm/year), accounting for more than 5% of the total gas consumption in the United Kingdom.

Discovered in 2008 by Maersk Oil and its co-venturers in the Central Graben area, close to the Elgin-Franklin fields, the gas condensate field has resources estimated at 250-300 mboe. Total took over Mærsk's fully-owned exploration and production (E&P) subsidiary in early 2018, including Maersk Oil & Gas's 49.99% stake and operatorship in the Culzean field. Other shareholders are BP (32%) and JX Nippon Oil (18.01%).
