Total starts up gas production from the Badamyar field (Myanmar)

Total has started up production from the Badamyar gas project, located offshore 220 km south of Yangon in Myanmar. The project involves the installation of a new well-head platform connected to the Yadana production facilities, and the drilling of 4 horizontal wells to develop Badamyar gas field as a satellite of Yadana. It will enable an extension of the Yadana gas field’s 8 bcm/year production plateau beyond 2020.

Total is the operator of the project with a 31.2% interest. Its partners are Chevron-Unocal (28.3%), PTTEP (25.5%) and the national company MOGE (15%). Active in Myanmar since 1992, Total E&P Myanmar (TEPM) is the operator of the offshore M5 and M6 blocks that cover Yadana gas field, which is in production since 1998. Gas production from M5 and M6 blocks currently supplies half of all gas consumed by Myanmar and around 12% of gas consumed by neighbouring Thailand.
