Total Eren and Chariot plans a 10 GW green hydrogen plant in Mauritania

Total Eren and Chariot will start feasibility studies in order to develop the 10 GW Nour green hydrogen project located in Mauritania. The plant, which would meet both domestic green fuel demand and export demand, will be equally owned by the two companies. Chariot will co-lead on project development and permitting, local content, and stakeholder engagement.

Previously, in September 2021, Chariot secured exclusivity over an onshore and offshore area totaling approximately 14,400 km2 to carry out pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for developing solar and wind power capacities that could be used to produce green hydrogen. Mauritania’s installed capacity stood at 610 MW by end-2020, of which 80% is oil-fired.
