Total aims to join France's electricity retail market by end-2017

Total expects to realize its plan to sell electricity and gas in France by the end of 2017. The company will prepare a "low cost" offer and targets a market of 2 million customers. Besides, it has set itself the ambition of becoming a major player in the electricity generation and retail businesses and aims at competing with EDF and Engie. The company has created a new division to combine its electricity, gas and new energies activities.

Total already has a foothold on the Belgian electricity retail market since it purchased Lampiris electricity and gas retail assets in 2016 and gained access to 500,000 customers. Lampiris accounted for around 4.6% of the electricity sales on the retail market in 2015 (8.5% of the delivery points with 720,000 points), and for 4.2% of sales on the gas retail market (10.8% of customers with 350,000 customers).
