Toshiba wins order for 600 MW coal-fired project in Vietnam

Toshiba has been awarded an order for the extension of Vinh Tan 4 coal-fired thermal power plant in the Tuy Phong district of the Binh Thuan province in Vietnam.

The project, developed by state-owned power utility Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), was approved in the Power Master Planning VII and included in the list of the urgent investment projects in 2013-2020. The EPC contract was awarded to a consortium of Doosan Heavy Industries, Mitsubishi, Power Engineering Consulting JSC No2 and Pacific Group JSC and construction started in late April 2016. The 600 MW supercritical unit is estimated at VND 24,000bn (US$1.1bn) and is expected to be commissioned in 2019.

The project will be part of the Vinh Tan coal-fired power plant; the first phase (1,244 MW) is already operational and an additional 1,200 MW is under construction. When completed, Vinh Tann will have a total power capacity of more than 6,200 MW.
