Toshiba wins EPC contract for 2 GW USC project in Malaysia

A consortium of Toshiba, IHI, Hyundai Engineering and Hyundai Engineering & Construction, has won an engineering, procurement and construction contract (EPC Contract) for the 2,000 MW ultra-super-critical (USC) coal-fired 3B power generation project in Mukim Jimah in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The EPC Contract was signed with a special purpose company established by Mitsui and 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), which is wholly owned by the Malaysian Ministry of Finance. Under the EPC Contract, Toshiba will supply and install two units of 1,000 MW USC steam turbine and generators (STG), plus other main equipment, including plant control equipment, main transformers and the switch yard. The first unit of the project is expected to start commercial operation in 2018, and second in 2019. Power generation will be sold to Tenaga Nasional Berhad, Malaysia's national power utility under a Power Purchase Agreement.
