TNB commissions 1 GW Jimah East-1 USC coal-fired power plant in Malaysia

Jimah East Power, the joint venture of Malaysian state-run power company Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) (70%), Mitsui (15%) and Chugoku Electric (15%), has commissioned the first 1,000 MW unit of the Jimah East ultra-supercritical (USC) coal-fired power plant in Port Dickson in the state of Negeri Sembilan (Malaysia). The Jimah East Power (Project 3B) Unit 1 had been synchronised to the national power grid in December 2018.

Jimah East Power is building a second 1,000 MW USC coal-fired power unit in Port Dickson, Jimah East Power (Project 3B) Unit 2, which is expected to be commissioned in December 2019. The produced electricity will be sold directly to TNB under the framework of a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

TNB already operates two 1 GW USC coal-fired power plants Manjung 4 and Manjung 5 in Lumut, Perak (Malaysia) which were commissioned in 2015 and 2017, respectively.
