Thai Binh LNG Power, a joint venture between Tokyo Gas (40%), Kyuden International (30%), and TTVN Group (30%), has started to build a 1.5 GW LNG-fired power plant in the Hung Yen Province, in northern Vietnam. The US$2.69bn power plant is expected to be commissioned in the fourth quarter of 2029 and to generate 6–10 TWh/year of electricity. The project aims to address power shortages in northern Vietnam, which accounts for 40% of national electricity demand and faces annual consumption growth exceeding 10%.
