TES unveils a green hydrogen project in Canada involving 1 GW of renewables

TESCanada H2, a subsidiary of the European company Tree Energy Solutions (TES), has unveiled a new green hydrogen project which will be located in the Canadian province of Quebec and will involve the development of 1 GW of wind of solar capacity. The initiative, named Projet Mauricie, will require a CAD4bn (US$2.9bn) investment in the construction of electrolysis and renewable energy facilities in the “Vallée de la transition énergétique”, in the Mauricie region. The project is estimated for completion in 2028 and will produce 70 kt/year of green hydrogen for local use in Quebec. The project aims to allow a reduction of emissions of 800 ktCO2/year.

According to Canada’s National Hydrogen Strategy (2020), clean hydrogen has the potential to deliver up to 6% of the country’s final energy consumption in 2030 and 30% in 2050, abating up to 45 MtCO2eq of GHG emissions in 2030 and 190 MtCO2eq in 2050.
