TerraForm, an affiliate of Brookfield Asset Management, has announced the acquisition of Steward Creek Solar, a 1.56 GW solar project under development in Lee County, Illinois (United States), from Hexagon Energy (TerraForm press release, 02/02/2026). It will be developed in two phases, each expected to generate approximately 1.3 TWh/year of electricity once operational. Phase 1 is expected to begin construction in 2027 and reach commercial operation in 2029, with Phase 2 commencing construction in 2028 and achieving commercial operation in 2030.
The project recently secured the execution of a 600 MW interconnection agreement between TerraForm, Commonwealth Edison, and PJM Interconnection, allowing it to connect and inject electricity into the PJM grid. The acquisition expands TerraForm’s pre-construction pipeline of solar and battery storage projects to nearly 7 GW, primarily located in PJM and SERC.
