Terna, the Italian power transmission system operator (TSO) has signed a framework agreement with the Italian cable maker Prysmian Group to strengthen the national power transmission network.
The three-year agreement, worth up to €382.5m and extendable by an additional year, requires the operator to purchase a minimum of 50 km of high-voltage cables annually. According to Prysmian, the total volume could increase significantly depending on Terna’s needs. Under the agreement, Prysmian will supply high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) cables, along with maintenance services for high-voltage cable systems.
Prysmian stated that the deal will support Terna’s efforts to modernise and upgrade the national power grid, in alignment with the goals of the European Green Deal and Italy’s national energy and climate strategies. Prysmian is also involved in the development of a new 2 GW submarine power link between Sicily and Italian Mainland.
