TenneT's offshore transmission capacities now reach 5.3 GW (Germany)

The power transmission system operator TenneT (operating in the Netherlands and in Germany) has increased its North Sea offshore wind transmission systems capacity up to 5,332 MW. This figure accounts for 82% of the German Federal Government offshore expansion target for 2020 (6,500 MW).

According to TenneT, the North Sea offshore wind parks accounted for nearly 16% of the total German wind power generation in 2017, with 16 TWh (out of a total wind power generation estimated at 100 TWh in 2017). This is 47% more than in 2016 (around 11 TWh) and more than twice the 2015 North Sea wind generation level (7.4 TWh).

TenneT plans to complete two additional connectivity systems by the end of 2019, which will provide 7,132 MW of power transmission capacity in the North Sea. By 2025, four more connections are planned, which will increase the transmission capacity in the North Sea to over 10,000 MW.
