TenneT to rise investments in power transmission capacity (Netherlands)

In order to boost the transmission of renewable electricity, the Dutch transmission system operator TenneT has set aside €215m to invest in power transmission capacity in the northern Netherlands, on top of the €1bn already invested in this region. Planned investment would allow to add 2 GW of solar and wind capacity to the Dutch grid.

The public company plans to build two 380 kV / 110 kV high-voltage stations in Groningen and Drenthe that would be completed around 2025, and to increase the capacity of existing 110 kV high-voltage stations in Bargermeer, Coevorden, Emmen Weerdinge, Hardenberg, Klazienaveen, Musselkanaal Zandberg, Ommen Dante, Stadskanaal and Veenoord. In addition, TenneT considers asking the Dutch regulator (ACM) an authorisation to connect solar parks without a backup to liberate capacity on the grid (around 500 MW).

TenneT has recently started to operate a 60-km-long, 380 kV line linking Beverwijk and Bleiswijk, with 10 km underground. The Noordring project has been realised in 5 years.
