TenneT plans to invest €18-22bn in Dutch and German power grids

TenneT, the power transmission network operator of the Netherlands and in central Germany invested €2.3bn in 2014 and plans to invest between €18bn and €22bn over the next ten years. Between 2015 and 2024, TenneT plans to invest €6-8bn in the electricity transmission network of the Netherlands, including €4bn to €5bn in onshore projects and €2bn-€3bn in offshore projects; by 2023, the company plans to connect 3,450 MW of offshore wind capacity to the Dutch network. In Germany, investments will range between €12bn and €14bn (€7-8bn in onshore projects and €5-6bn in offshore projects). The group expects to connect more than 7,100 MW of offshore wind projects in the German North Sea by 2019, exceeding the German target of 6.5 GW by 2020. Nearly 90% of the investments will be directed to new projects, with 10% dedicated to the modernisation of existing assets. TenneT will also invest in interconnection projects, such as the Doetinchem-Wesel and Meeden-Diele interconnectors and the NordLink and COBRAcable subsea connections. The company aims to start the construction of a 800-km long north-south transmission backbone in Germany, the SuedLink project. In the Netherlands, the company will focus on the Randstad 380 kV North Ring and the South-West 380 kV project.
