Bobwhite Energy Storage, a subsidiary of the US energy firm Tenaska, has entered into a long-term energy storage agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for a 225 MW/900 MWh storage project located in East Tennessee, United States (Tenaska press release, 21/04/2026).
The Bobwhite project, currently at an advanced development stage in Hawkins County, is scheduled to begin construction in 2027, with commissioning anticipated in late 2029. According to the company’s press release, the contract signed with TVA, the largest public power provider in the United States, has a duration of 20 years.
Through this agreement, TVA has secured a total of 425 MW of standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) to address capacity requirements across its seven-state service area, the company indicated.
Headquartered in Nebraska, Tenaska has developed around 14 GW of natural gas and renewable energy projects. Its current development pipeline exceeds 33 GW, including approximately 7 GW of battery storage capacity.
