Tellurian awards Bechtel US$15.2bn EPC contract for Driftwood LNG (US)

The US LNG export project developer Tellurian and the engineering company Bechtel have signed four turnkey agreements totalling US$15.2bn for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of the planned Driftwood LNG export facility project in Lake Charles, Louisiana (United States).

The US$13bn - US$16bn project is expected to have an export capacity of 27.5 Mt/year of LNG from 20 liquefaction units, each producing 1.38 Mt/year, three 235,000 m3 storage tanks and three berths for the accommodation of the LNG ships. The project will be built in four phases, with a first phase of eight trains (total capacity of 11 Mt/year), two storage tanks and two berths, followed by three phases of 4 trains (5.5 Mt/year) each. The third storage tank and berth should be added in the third stage. The project will also include a 96-mile (around 154 km) feed gas pipeline delivering 4 bcf/d (around 113 mcm/d) of natural gas to the facility.

In April 2017, Driftwood LNG submitted a formal application to the Federal Energy Regulator Commission (FERC) regarding the construction and the operation of the facility. The Final Investment Decision (FID) for the project is expected to take place in mid-2018. Tellurian expects to start the Driftwood LNG project in 2018 and the first LNG production in 2022, while full operations could begin in 2025.
